Local author writes book to raise money and awareness for pit bulls

Loveabulls: Life and Love with Rescued Bullies is a must-have for dog lovers

“Loveabulls: Life and Love with Rescued Bullies,” written and photographed by Jamie Hopf (with Mary Kay Ludden), both from northern New Jersey, is a new book spotlighting the most important domestic pet rescue in modern history — the American pit-bull terrier. Loveabulls highlights the stories of 12 pit-bull terriers and the people who rescued them. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the book’s sales will go to Best Friends Animal Society.

Loveabulls is positive and upbeat, avoiding the preachy or negative approach many other books and articles take to disprove the myths surrounding pit bull terriers. Utilizing her skills as an accomplished amateur photographer, Jamie’s stunning black-and-white photography mesmerizes the reader and captures the true essence of these majestic dogs. In other words, she lets the photos do all the work.

“I’m always thinking of ways I can help animals and photography is one of those ways,” said Jamie. “I’ve met a lot of really nice pit bulls over the years and it breaks my heart to see how they have been generalized and demonized. People love books with pictures of cute Lab puppies so I thought, why not make a book of cute pits and raise money for them at the same time?”
