Franklin Lakes Kid Curfew in Effect Wednesday

Kids under 18 need to be home by 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to borough police.

Local kids will need to get their trick-or-treating done early this year, as the Franklin Lakes Police Department recently released a reminder to residents that it will be enforcing the borough’s curfew ordinance on Halloween and ‘Mischief Night.’

“The purpose of the ordinance is to assist the police department in minimizing the amount of property damage sustained by borough residents, and businesses, during this particular time of the year,” Lt. John Bakelaar said in a release about the curfew.

According to police, the rules are as follows:

  • No juvenile, under the age of 18 years, shall be present on any public street or in any public place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on October 30 and October 31, unless accompanied by the juvenile’s parent or guardian, or unless engaged in, or traveling to or from, an activity or occupation which the laws of the State of New Jersey authorize a juvenile to perform. 
  • No parent or guardian shall allow an unaccompanied juvenile to be on any public street or in any public place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on October 30 and October 31. 
  • Notwithstanding the preceding restrictions, a juvenile, during the stated curfew hours, may engage in errands involving medical emergencies, attend extracurricular school activities, or participate in other cultural, educational, or social events, which are sponsored by a religious or community-based organization.
