Family-Friendly Opera in Wyckoff Friday

Hansel and Gretel will be on stage at the Y.

A family-friendly opera is headed to Bergen County.

The Wyckoff YMCA is putting on a production of Hansel and Gretel, an English opera based on the classic Grimm fairytale, the Y announced in a recent release.

The show is set to include performances by Studio 691’s Dance Company, part of the Performing Arts School at the Wyckoff YMCA, the Youth Ensemble comprised with some of the children of the Y’s performing arts school, and a cast of professional singers.

“Our goal is to provide a venue for local talent as we seek to present top line entertainment to the community at reasonable prices,” the Y’s executive director, Joy Vottero, said in the release. “Our recent experience – including attendance by our members at Opening Nights at the Met – suggests that our community will support local opera. That’s exciting.”

Hansel and Gretel is on stage Friday at 7:30 p.m., on the Y’s Carl Pfeifer Performing Arts Stage. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for Seniors and Students & $15 for Children. For an extra $10, locals can attend a pre-show reception at 6 p.m. that includes champagne and light fare.
