BERGEN LEADS TO PRESENT NON-PROFIT BOARD WORKSHOP

Bergen LEADS, BergenCounty’s premier civic leadership program that is sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, will present an evening workshop on board service for individuals who wish to serve on a non-profit board or for those already engaged as a board member.

BoardLink will be presented on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, from 3 pm to 9 pm at IKEA, 100 Ikea Drive in Paramus.  

Cost to attend is $100 per person, which includes dinner and all course materials.  A group rate of 3 registrations for $175 is also available to agencies that are members of theVolunteer Center.

Amanda Missey, Director of Bergen LEADS, will give a general overview of the roles and responsibilities of a non-profit Board of Directors. Ron Matan and Bridget Hartnett of  CPA firm Sobel & Company, will speak about board fiduciary responsibilities, including audits and reading financial statements.  

Linda Czipo from the Center for Non-Profits will lead a discussion on ethics, risk management, lobbying and advocacy for agencies. Kim Caesar from Hackensack University Medical Center's Sanzari Children’s Hospital, will join Jane He from the Volunteer Center to talk about a Board’s role in fund-raising.

Upon completion of the workshop, the Volunteer Center will help match participants to a board that is in need of their particular skills, talents and interests.

IKEA is a furniture store that specializes in flat packaging and self assembly. It has a large showroom that customers can walk through and visually see how the furniture will look in their home. It also has tape measures, notepads and pencils for customers to use so they may write down the pieces that you like and where they are located. Each piece that is in stock will have an Aisle and Bin number which the customer will use in order to find their furniture pieces. All furniture is packaged in boxes and contains assembly instructions. Orders can be placed online as well.
