Our Republican governor gets good marks from the Garden State, but so does our Democratic president, according to the latest poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University's PublicMind. Barack Obama also has a solid lead over Mitt Romney in New Jersey, according to the poll — especially among women. Read the full statement from FDU below, then let us know what you think. According the latest poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind, 50 percent of New Jersey voters say they approve of the way the president is handling his job, while 42 percent disapprove. These numbers mirror the support expressed by New Jerseyans for their Republican governor, Chris Christie, as reported yesterday: 56 percent approve of the job Christie is doing, …

Administrative Law judge says issue is irrelevant; Obama is automatically on ballot as President.
A state judge has ruled against objectors seeking to remove President Barack Obama's name from New Jersey's upcoming primary ballot. Administrative Law Judge Jeff Masin ruled against the ballot challenge following a more than three-hour hearing earlier this week, according to attorney Mario Apuzzo, who represents two New Jersey men who brought the challenge. The challenge centered on the men's contention that Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States and that a birth certificate released by the White House last April is fraudulent. The judge ruled that Obama's place on the ballot could not be removed by challenge because Obama, as president, automatically appears on the ballot. "The sham continues. In one way or another it's…

Mayor says family, professional commitments at root of decision
Current Wyckoff Mayor Chris DePhillips won't seek a second term as committeeman, he told Wyckoff Patch Wednesday DePhillips, who was elected in 2009 along with Committeeman Kevin Rooney, said that he wouldn't run because of family and professional commitments. "I've struggled with this for several weeks and I've decided that my singular focus for the remainder of 2012 will be my mayoral duties," DePhillips said Wednesday. The mayor, partner in Porzio, Bromberg, and Newman, and father of four children ages 4 to 14, said that campaigning for a committee seat would be the equivalent of adding a fourth full time job to his plate. "There aren't enough hours left in the day," DePhillips said. "Something had to give." He added that most people …

The township unveiled a new map with two additional voting districts following a redistricting by the county. The Bergen County Superintendent of Elections mailed letters recently to registered voters in the new districts, according to township officials. The township has urged voters to carefully read their sample ballots when they are received in the mail in May and October for their voting districts and voting locations. Bergen County redistricts its municipal voting districts when more than 1,500 voters are registered in a voting district. While the change may shift where some will be voting this election cycle, recycling collection and curbside leaf collection will remain unchanged. Here are the details of the change from the …

Support came at Teaneck campaign event
Former Marine and 5th District Congressional Candidate Jason Castle picked up endorsements from Assemblyman Gordon Johnson (D-37) and NFL Hall of Famer Harry Carson at a campaign event in Teaneck over the weekend. “When I was originally considering running for Congress, Democrats, Independents and Republicans came up to me and said they were supporting me because we needed more good people and good leaders in Washington,” Carson said in a prepared statement. “That is what I have to say about Jason Castle: He is a good person and a good leader. He is authentic, genuine, and will fight to change Washington. Carson announced last month he had decided not to run against Republican Rep. Scott Garrett for the newly drawn 5th Congressional …

Candidate will move to Teaneck, report says.
Marine Corps veteran Jason Castle announced his candidacy for the 5th Congressional District Wednesday, billing himself as a moderate Democrat who would bring change to Washington politics. In a statement, Castle said the complex challenges facing America “threaten the very soul of our nation.” “Every day in this bleak economy we all fight to provide for our families. We have all made sacrifices and adjusted expectations,” he said. “Through all of this, politicians in Washington fight the same tired partisan battles rather than working together to put forward the serious reforms needed to pass America through this crisis.” In a Facebook post, Castle said Congress has become focused on “pet projects” and partisan squabbles. Castle has never…

David Ganz and Joan Voss beat Republican challengers after close race
Democrats defeated their Republican challengers Tuesday night in a Bergen County freeholder race that largely focused on property taxes. Incumbent David Ganz of Fair Lawn and Assemblywoman Joan Voss of Fort Lee — who was filling the spot on the Democratic ticket vacated when Bernadette McPherson decided not to seek re-election — bested Republicans Joel Brizzi of East Rutherford and Anthony Rottino of Franklin Lakes, and Independent Edward Brunner. Final vote tallies would likely not be available until Wednesday, after several municipal clerks failed to report numbers to the county, according to a staff member in the Clerk's Office, who declined to be named Tuesday night. At least 507 out of 543 precincts were reported at the county Board …
