The first steps toward the long-planned $4 million Wyckoff Library expansion efforts are underway with the announcement that the library will officially close its doors on February 28 and transition into temporary headquarters at the Wyckoff Shopping Center on March 14. The Township Committee voted unanimously last year to endorse the issuance of building permits to allow the approximately 6,000-square-foot project to proceed after months of discussion on the total cost of the expansion.   On January 26 at 12:14am, Wyckoff Police responded to Route 208 north near Cedar Hill Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Ptl. Brian Zivkovich found a vehicle that had driven off the highway and was on top of a snow bank. The subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of the driver, Howard E. Goodman, 60, of Franklin Lakes,  who was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. The Wyckoff Zoning Board will hold a special meeting this evening at 7:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church to discuss the Christian Health Care Center's Vista proposal to build an independent living complex for seniors. The proposed expansion has drawn the ire of some residents. S.A.V.E. Wyckoff (Stop Aggressive Vista Expansion) was born this fall as the Vista project headed to hearings before the zoning Board of Adjustment.   Plans to renovate the Wyckoff Public Library are at last under way. During construction, the library will temporarily be housed at 637 Wyckoff Avenue in the Wyckoff Shopping Center. The Franklin Lakes Public Library has agreed to serve as the Wyckoff home library while the transition occurs sometime in mid-to-late February. The new hours at the Wyckoff Shopping Center site through June will be as follows: Monday 10 – 8, Tuesday 10 – 6, Wednesday 10 – 8, Thursday 10 – 6, Friday 10 – 5, Saturday 10 - 5, Sunday Closed. The trial of an Ogdensburg man accused of assaulting and trying to disarm Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox following a motor vehicle accident in 2008 entered its second week today as the defense began calling character witnesses and a toxicology expert to the stand. Friends of the Wyckoff Library program "Get Organized", originally scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this evening at the Library, has been cancelled due to worsening weather conditions.  The Library will post an alternate date for the event in the coming days.
Three seats on the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional Board of Education are up for election this year. The terms that will be voted on in the April 27 school board election include the seats currently held by Jeff Brown, of Wyckoff, and Sadie Quinlan and Jane Castor, both of Oakland. The Wyckoff Public Library now has a new home on the web. The library recently launched its own website at http://wyckofflibrary.org, which library staff say will offer patrons greater resources and information on library events, programs and the forthcoming construction project. The new site offers access to two online encyclopedias, World Book and Brittanica, as well as searchable databases through the Bergen County Cooperative Library System. Residents can apply for a library card online, and audio books and e-books are available for download to those who have a valid library card. The …
Residents interested in running for a seat on the Wyckoff Board of Education can pick up or download a "School Board Candidate Kit." Three, three-year seats will be contested in this spring's election, on April 27. Seats held by board President Rob Francin and Vice President Lisa Martone, both of whom were appointed to fill unexpired terms last spring, will be on the ballot, as will the seat of member Thomas Giamanco.  Candidates must file a nominating petition with the school board to get their names on the ballot. The Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department is requesting the residents' help in digging out from the recent snow storms. The department would like homeowners to help out by "adopting" a fire hydrant near their homes. Although township roads are largely clear from this week's snowfall, the accumulation from the three storms since Christmas may have helped to all but bury some of the township's hydrants. The firefighters request the residents' help in clearing those hydrants to allow for easy, quick access. The department asks those who contract with a private plower to clear their driveways and …
