'Housewives' Explosion Gives Way to Despair

Joe Gorga: "Old school Italian [parents] don’t go to therapy... They just don’t speak to each other for the rest of their lives.”

Screaming and finger pointing gave way to quiet, sad resignation this week on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” And sometimes that can be harder to watch. The episode starts with a montage of different housewives talking to their husbands about the explosive, near-physical fight between sisters-in-law Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga last week. Melissa is upset with Teresa for calling her a gold digger; Teresa is upset that her brother Joe told his wife about the comment at all. “He broke our confidence and I’ll never tell him anything ever again,” Teresa says. “Zip zip zip.” Most interesting about this scene is the weighing in of the husbands, especially the less-than-present Albert Manzo, Caroline’s husband. “I have the luxury of …

Balloon Festival: Patch Will Send You Into the Sky

Event celebrates its 30th season.

When is a balloon festival not (just) a balloon festival? That’s a tough question, especially when a huge yearly event is billed as such (I mean, it's called the Festival of Ballooning, after all) and there certainly are plenty of hot-air balloons to be displayed. Still, the Quick Chek Festival of Ballooning—in its 30th year, running from July 27 through 29 at Solberg Airport in Readington—is also part amusement park, with a healthy number of rides, an arts-and-crafts emporium, a yoga and Zumba demonstration, and lots and lots of food. Of the 30 years, Quick Chek has been a major sponsor for 20. And for the first time, Patch is partnering with the festival to get you in at a great price. Between May 13 and 20, use this link to buy tickets …

If you want a FREE close up time with the ballon, or a ballon, go to the 6:00 AM launch, but don't go into the festival. Then pick a special ballon and chase it. It will land someplace that is close to a road. The balloon people are more than happy to have you there.   more ›

Nick Jonas Moving on From Broadway's "How to Succeed..."

Jonas Brothers Nick and Joe heading to NBC and Fox

Despite his best efforts, it looks like Nick Jonas couldn't help "How to Succeed..." stay in business. Producers of the ex-hit Broadway show made it official last week following several months of sub-par box office returns, according to reports. The revival of 1961's "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" played just more than 500 show since it opened in February 2011, recouping $9 million of an initial investment within a year thanks to its then-star Daniel Radcliffe, according to the Huffington Post. Jonas took center stage in January and had signed on through July 1, but ticket sales took a dive: Last week, the box office took in just $368,000 out of a potential gross of $1,394,000, the Huffington post reported.   "My …

Gorga, Giudice Nearly Come to Blows

Real Housewives finally throw down over "gold digger" jab

Reality shows are not reality. Most fans of them are aware, and it’s no longer a shock when show are “revealed” to be staged. Still, “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” does a middling to good job of staying as “real” as possible. Or at least they did, until this season.  There are the little things, like purposefully quoting the things that got the biggest reaction from season three. Joe Gorga’s obsession with “poison,” for example, has only increased. But it really becomes evident with the central conflict so far which is, as always, between Joe Gorga, his wife Melissa Gorga, and his sister Teresa Giudice. The most recent issue rose when Joe Gorga tried to talk to his sister about a quote he’d seen from her husband Joe Giudice in a …

Jonas Brothers Dad Honored by American Diabetes Association

Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2005

The following was submitted by Celia Riggio of Terrie O'Connor Realtors: Bill and Joel Werner of Wyckoff, long time friends of the Jonas family, hosted a fund raising event at their home on Wednesday evening, May 2, honoring Kevin Jonas, Sr., and the contributions he has made to the American Diabetes Association, raising much needed funds to support diabetes research, education and advocacy. At Kevin Jonas's request, Bill Werner has taken on the role of fund raising chairman for the Northeast. The dinner brought out many of Bergen’s best who pledged their support to the ADA by making online donations in Kevin’s name and bidding on silent auction items, many of which were donated by local area merchants. Chris Orders Ashlee to Vegas; Melissa Records Ballad for Joe

Two episodes in and still no real drama between the "Housewives."

While not every episode of the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” can have a table-flipping moment, this season seems to be moving especially slow towards presenting the audience with even some minor drama.  The show opened with the aftereffects of Chris Laurita telling stepdaughter Ashlee Holmes last episode that she had to leave for Las Vegas the next day. Ashlee was frantically trying to pack while simultaneously freaking out about flying. Holmes’ mother Jacqueline Laurita seemed unaffected by Ashlee’s episode. Both Jacqueline and Chris (who did on-camera confessionals for the first time this season) seemed secure in their decision to send Holmes away indefinitely. “Ashlee’s been self-destructing…” Jacqueline said. “Ripping her hair out …
