Wyckoff Receives State Grant for Newtown Road Repaving

The township committee introduced an ordinance Tuesday night to accept a state grant to repave a section of Newtown Road.

A section of Newtown Road will be repaved this summer, pending the Wyckoff Township Committee's approval of an ordinance introduced Tuesday night to accept a $150,000 grant from the NJ Department of Transportation Trust Fund.

The grant program, which the township has regularly applied for in the past, requires improvements to be made on roads controlled by the munipality that see heavy traffic. The state received 660 applications this year, and Wyckoff was one of 337 municipalities to be awarded grant money.

The repaving would occur on Newtown Road between the Midland Park border and Henry Place. If the committee votes to accept the grant, the project would be put out for bid, and surplus grant money could be used to extend the scope of the paving.

The costs of repaving would be entirely covered by the state grant, with no requirement for the borough to match the funds.

"This project demonstrates the Township's continuing efforts to obtain funding to allow the Township to again achieve an improvement without having to spend Wyckoff property tax dollars," a release from the township said.

"Getting tax dollars back from the State is a high priority, given the contuing efforts in Trenton to reduce municipal funding to towns like Wyckoff."

If approved, the repaving would likely take under a week and be completed this summer.
