Patrolman Brian Zivkovich was promoted to Sergeant and Kyle Ferreira was appointed to the position of probationary police officer, at a Wyckoff Committee meeting Tuesday night.

"The police department will greatly benefit by this promotion and new hire," said Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox. "Sergeant Zivkovich has defined himself as a quality officer dedicated to both his responsibilities as a police officer as well as the community in general. His efforts in the traffic bureau have gone a long way in keeping the roadways in Wyckoff safer."

Zivkovich, 33, a resident of Wyckoff who is an active member of the Wyckoff Fire Department, is a graduate of Marist College with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

He was a dispatcher with the Wyckoff Police Department from 2002 to 2004 before leaving to attend the Cape May Police Academy as an Alternate Route candidate.

After graduating he served as a Midland Park Police officer from February to November 2005, and then transferred to the Wyckoff Police Department.

Zivkovich currently serves in the traffic bureau and recently completed courses in specialized motor vehicle crash investigations and crash reconstruction, according to a Wyckoff Police press release. 

Brian teaches DARE classes at Eisenhower School, is a bicycle patrol officer and recently completed a Field Training Officers class to certify him in training new recruits, according to the department.

New Patrolman Kyle Ferreira, 24, is a resident of Elmwood Park.

He was raised in Woodcliff Lake and is a 2005 graduate of Don Bosco High School. In 2010 he graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in architecture.

"He is a well educated, well spoken, personable individual who was selected during a highly competitive hiring process," Fox said. "He comes to Wyckoff with both police and emergency medical training, and will be assigned to patrol duties following a six week training program." 

Ferreira replaces a Wyckoff Police officer who retired Jan. 1.

He completed his college courses while also working full time as a police officer.

Ferreira attended the Newark Police Academy and was a member of the Newark Police from September 2009 until his release in November 2010 when the city completed a reduction in the number of officers on the police force.

He has also worked as an Emergency Medical Technician on an ambulance for the Jersey City Medical Center. Recently, Ferreira has been employed by the State of New Jersey as a security officer to major state infrastructures.
