Readers Provide the Inside Scoop on Romantic Local Valentine's Day Ideas

What will you be doing for that special someone this year?

Valentine's Day is less than 2 weeks away, and I'm sure many of you last-minute types out there won't make plans until hours before dinner. With y'all in mind, Wyckoff Patch asked readers on Facebook and Twitter to play Cupid and rain down some Valentine's Day arrows on readers in need.

Specifically, I wanted to give readers the inside scoop on some of the area's best spots for a romantic date.

Most offered fine dining options, but a few ventured out of the box with their suggestions.

Here are some of your ideas:

  • Facebook fan Jennifer Piliaskas Bono told us to go to Chakra on Route 4 in Paramus. The restaurant really sets the mood for an intimate experience. From their website: "Rich teak floors and tables; romantic, silk-tented bungalows; mahogany-paneled walls; Oriental rugs; and exotic candlelight create an energy that is sensuous, uplifting, and other-worldly."
  • Melissa Cap on Facebook suggested Arturo's in Midland Park, which is known for it's expansive, can't-miss menu.
  • Wyckoff Patch contributor Marc Phillips picked one of my personal favorites, Sakura. A traditional Japanese restaurant in the heart of Wyckoff, Sakura has a sushi menu that really soars beyond expectations.
  • "From the old days has to be The Barn," Facebook user Mark Kenyon wrote. "Classic date night from the high school days."
  • Ice cream and chocolates — a surefire suggestion, really — from Kilwins on Wyckoff Avenue was one idea from Marylou Pizarro Triana on our Facebook page. The biz offers great choices from peanut brittle, to fudge, to a dizzying array of flavors of homemade ice cream.
  • Ron Tomasian, the last to comment on our Facebook thread, took the entire township to task when he picked his favorite Valentine's Day spot. "Saddle River Inn wins hands down," Tomasian wrote. "Sorry Wyckoff!"
  • Twitter follower @adriregojo suggested we try "a bike ride through Ridgewood bike trails with a [backpack] with chocolate." That sounds like an genuinely fun and original idea, but considering it's likely to be in the 40s around Valentine's Day you may have to give your sweetheart a rain check.
