Township Sets Police Salaries, Benefits

Ordinance adopted under terms of PBA contract

The Township Committee has unanimously set police officers' salaries and benefits under terms of a contract settled this winter.

The accord with PBA Local 261, settled in February after a protracted negotiation that landed in mediation, is retroactive to 2008 and runs through 2014. Under the deal, police will see an average 2.71 percent salary hike over the life of the contract, and PBA members have to pay into their health benefits.

Police are due a 2.5 percent pay boost in 2010; a 3 percent hike in 2011; a 2.75 percent increase in 2012; a 2.5 percent raise in 2013; and a 2.75 percent boost in 2014. Retroactive raises for 2008 and 2009 are set at 3 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively.
