Here Here Q!! I would challenge anyone in Wyckoff to tell me about Jepsen - NOT ROONEY - but he helped with his "gas" station opening up. He hasn't had that many customers all years with his prices.

Yes, Rooney did open his gas station, at first to the town's first responders to fill their cars AND their SPOUSES' cars so they could have a back up. What a crock!! Don't forget how concerned he was about the people who got to fill gas cans (10 gal. limit) at the bargain price of $3.70 a gallon. Oakland Gulf was $3.45 and Oakland Lukoil was $3.49, Route 17 North gas was between $3.51 - $3.55 and gas in Paramus was $3.45!! I wonder who was pumping the gas for him? From what I hear they were Wyckoff DPW people "on the clock." I guess when your in-laws are the Shotmeyers you can throw some crumbs to the "ordinary" people and play by your own rules, such as discriminating who you sell gas to. Imagine the uproar if, instead of Wyckoff residents only, the policy was whites only!! Would sure love to hear that someone from out-of-town filed a lawsuit against him and that the suit was filed in Superior Court in Hackensack and NOT in Wyckoff.
Q - How true!! The lady gave it her best shot but, unfortunately, was unsuccessful. Kudos to her for at least trying. Don't worry about her, she'll be fine but can we say the same about the town?

Wow, the uproar over Rooney is getting good...i said what a crock this was, the moment it happened..Ed put forth a good example, the national media would have been camped out on the ront lawn of Borough Hall...i laugh when i see posters complimenting Rooney for his actions,many have personal or professional relationships with him....

@ Ed - time out here. While I disagree with the Wyckoff residents only gas policy Rooney implemented, your analogy is way over the top. As someone who often agrees with your comments, please tone down the incendiary rhetoric. "Discrimination" is a loaded term that is inconsistently implemented by the hypocrites entrusted to enforce its laws (I'm looking at you, Obama supporters and the entire Federal Dept of Justice). But we won't go there. Not now. At worst, Mayor Rooney's gas policy was a well-intentioned but misplaced initiative in what has been a miserable stretch. But this shall pass. Gary - Cheers to you also. I sincerely hope, though, that you're not assuming that I am a supporter of or a voter for Nobama. I happen to be an independent which, of course, eliminates me from voting in primaries but that's a small price to pay. Question for you: if you went to the Home Depot and wanted to buy a gas can and they told you that you can't buy one because you're not a resident of Mahwah, what would you call that other than a poor business decision. No matter how you dress it, it's (discrimination) a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Joe G. - Some may be unfounded allegations that are going around. I PERSONALLY witnessed Mr. Rooney pumping some gas on Saturday and wondered why he had filled a few people's three 5 gallon cans, making their take 15 gals. instead of the normal 10 gals. Yes, I do know the difference between the capacity of the cans and their cans, all three of them, were the same size as my two. As far as his prices, that must be why that station is usually devoid of customers.

what gas station does Rooney own? I am guessing the Luckoil on Wyckoff Ave, because that is the one I avoid because the prices are out of line...

JAZ - no - he owns the Getty across from Boulder Run. We just got gas and it was only $3.59 Rooney $3.70 unless it went up!

I don't think I have ever been as appalled as I am right now to here these comments. First off ROONEY does not OWN the Getty, its a family owned business that owns the property. Secondly, that station could have opened for two hours, run their tanks dry and gone home with all the profits, but this MAN decided that first responders of the town should have fueled first, just in case there is an emergency in town to keep RESIDENTS SAFE!!! And then he had his staff (that he was paying), HIMSELF and volunteers stand out in the cold to make sure residents of Wyckoff had at least 10 gallons of gas so they would not be freezing overnight and he did this every day for 8 to 10 hours he could when they had gas. This MAN should be commended for a job well done, praised by every resident of Wyckoff and other towns should be asking themselves why they dont have someone in their town that cares as much about its residents. AND YOU ALL that have anything but nice things to say should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! I hope some day you try to do something good for someone and then try to reach the knife in your back! SHAME ON YOU!!!

Well said J. If you follow these boards, you will notice there is a contingent in town that likes to complain about everything. If the Getty had been open to everyone, there would have been outrage at the fact that a town councilman was only looking to profit instead of thinking of first responders and residents. It's the chicken little effect. People that devote substantial time and energy to the town, regardless of political affiliation, learn that it is a thankless proposition. This is a prime example of that.

JR, i seriously doubt a resident would be upset if he/ she wasn't fiven preferential treatment in obtaining gas..i do believe a Wyckoff resident,myself included, would be angered if we drove to Waldwick for much needed gas and were turned away because we are not Waldwick reisdents

Thank you qdogPa! Some people put words in other people's mouths! We know Rooney doesn't OWN the gas station - he rents it! Yes, I know all about his relatives but that has nothing to do with limiting gas to Wyckoff people. Yes, I am a resident but I think about it and say to myself, "if I went to another town and they refused me gas" I would be upset too! That's all we are saying! And yes, he is charging more for gas then even stations on Rt. 17. Forget LukeOil in Wyckoff - they are always hi priced and they DID charge their price and made it higher during the hurricane. They should be reported!!! (Says Christie)
