Girl, 14, Arrested for Making Terror Threats Against Ramapo High School

Cops: Wyckoff girl tried to rally others to plan attack

A 14-year-old Wyckoff resident was arrested after making "terroristic threats" against Ramapo High School, according to local police.

The girl was arrested after a Facebook post which stated that she was looking for individuals to contact her in order to make a terrorist attack against the high school, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said Tuesday.

Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes detectives arrested the girl at her home and charged her with one count of terroristic threats. The complaint has been referred to Bergen County Juvenile Court, according to Fox.

The alleged terror scare on the  student's Facebook page was first reported to Franklin Lakes Police early Tuesday by Ramapo staff, according to Ramapo-Indian Hills Superintendent Lauren Schoen.

Schoen posted a notice on the district website at approximately 2:20 p.m. and sent an email blast notifying residents of the alleged incident.

Schoen wrote that a Ramapo student posted a message that "alluded to launching a terror attack" on the high school.

Schoen would not elaborate on the nature of the Facebook post, but said authorities were notified and students were safe.

"I believe that the situation that occurred has been handled appropriately," Schoen said Tuesday.

Because the individual was a minor police did not reveal her identity, but Franklin Lakes and Wyckoff police both confirmed that a 14-year-old girl was arrested for causing the scare.

Fox reported that the police departments are working closely with school officials at the high school so that school staff, students and parents are assured of the safety of the school.

"There are no known other individuals involved in the incident, and the threat appears to have been limited to the social network site posting," Fox said.

Schoen added that at no point had Ramapo High School been on lockdown.
