The deadline to be a part of the ad journal is Friday, April 12.

The Wyckoff Family YMCA announced Tuesday that its 10th annual William E. Boye Humanitarian Award would be presented to the Wyckoff Fire Department.

The award recognizes the fire department's members for their "selfless commitment of time, energy and resources to the residents and businesses of Wyckoff," according to YMCA Director of Public Relations Kris Pepper.

The Wyckoff Fire Department responded to 677 calls in 2012.

Fire fighters were a ubiquitous sight during Hurricane Sandy, responding to nearly 200 calls during the storm and it's aftermath.

“In light of the huge demand of calls and equipment requirements, we set a high priority to maintain updated safety equipment on all fronts,” said Fire Chief Lou Graglia. “In 2012 we purchased and deployed 13 bailout kits, and included training for our interior firefighters if they encounter hostile conditions when fighting an interior fire. We purchased 18 sets of new turnout gear to replace older sets that are no longer in compliance with today’s NFPA standards, and we continue to work to upgrade our self-contained breathing apparatus to offer our members the best personal protective equipment available.”

The Wyckoff Y is creating an ad journal, of which 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Wyckoff Fire Department. The deadline to be a part of the ad journal is Friday, April 12.

All Wyckoff residents and businesses are welcome to help the Fire Department meet the prohibitive cost of keeping all safety and firefighting equipment compliant and up to date.

The journal will be presented to all guests at the Y’s 2013 “Friends of the Y” Dinner on Wednesday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA.

All are invited to attend this celebratory, community-wide beefsteak dinner which will include special music, keynote speakers, presentations, and proclamations.

Tickets are $30 for Wyckoff firefighters, and $60 for all other guests.

Call Kris Pepper at the Y’s Development Office at 201-891-2081 for dinner tickets and ad sponsorship information.
