Healthy U Program Combats Childhood Obesity

The Wyckoff Family YMCA is pleased to announce the new Healthy U/CATCH program for its pre-school and after-care programs this fall.

The Healthy U program is New Jersey’s largest and mostcomprehensive statewide initiative to address childhood obesity in pre-school and after-schoolsettings. It’s aimed at preventing childhood obesity through health and physical education and familyinvolvement using the CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) curricula created by the Universityof Texas School of Public Health.

Healthy U is exclusively a YMCA program which includes fun lessons on nutrition which teach kids aboutthe “Go, Slow, and Whoa” foods, encouraging eating fruits and vegetables and healthy snacking. It alsoincludes fun gardening activities and physical activity that features non-competitive and non-eliminationgames.

The program kick off will be celebrated in the Wyckoff Y’s pre-school and after-school programson Thursday, October 18. For more information on the Y’s innovative pre-school and after-schoolprograms, call Michele or Debbie at 201-891-2081.
