Burglars Ransack Laurie Lane Home, Police Say

Early-evening burglary is the borough's fifteenth of 2012

Another Franklin Lakes resident was victimized when burglars ransacked a Laurie Lane home on Tuesday, borough police said.

The resident reported to police shortly after returning home that sometime between 6:45 and 7:30 p.m. someone had slashed open a screen and smashed in a rear door at the Laurie Lane home, according to Franklin Lakes Police Lt. John Bakelaar.

Cops say burglars ransacked an office and bedrooms at the home situated on a quiet and bucolic cul-de-sac about a mile west of The Market Basket on Franklin Lakes Road.

The burglar was gone by the time the resident returned home and borough and county police combed the area but came up empty handed, police said.

Police have yet to receive a complete inventory of stolen items, but the homeowner believes some jewelry was stolen during the burglary, Bakelaar said.

This is the fifteenth burglary so far this year in Franklin Lakes. Earlier this week police reported the theft of nearly $15,000 in cash from two borough homes.

Detective Jeff Jost, Sgt. Karl Klein and Officers Mark McCombs and Gerard Gansel investigated. Bergen County Sheriff’s Department and a county K-9 unit assisted at the scene.
