Crowdsourcing: FLOW's Most Dangerous Intersections

You know the roads here in Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes and Oakland better than anyone else — help us identify the roads that have the worst intersections for a future story.

Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Patch readers began talking immediately after a story was posted  at the Wyckoff intersection of Ravine and Lafayette avenues.

"Is anyone EVER going to do something about that intersection? I've lived on Lafayette Ave for more than 20 years and there are serious accidents exactly there REGULARLY! How about a flashing light?" commenter "."

She, along with several other readers here, as well as on the Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Facebook page, began to list a number of highly trafficked and troubled roads throughout the township.

Flashback to a recent in which Chairman Jerry Lombardo called the intersection of Mountain and Sicomac avenues "one of the most dangerous intersections in Bergen County."

It seems there are a number of traffic concerns residents have — and possibly have had for some time — that have not been addressed.

We're going to work on a story here on Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Patch involving troubled intersections, but we need some help from the people who know the FLOW-area roads best.

You.

We could use some local insight into a couple of key questions:

  • What are the most dangerous intersections in town?
  • Where are the most accidents happening?
  • When are they happening most frequently?
  • Why do you think these accidents are happening?
  • What can police — and drivers — do to help prevent accidents?
  • What have local officials done in the past when they are made aware of traffic concerns?

You can let us know what you think in the comments below, on our Facebook page, or you can email the editor with anonymous comments at Joseph.Gerace@patch.com.

Some examples that have already come in via Facebook include:

  • Karen LaCorte: "Mountain and Sicomac is THE WORST!! I will drive up through Franklin Lakes to avoid that left. My corner at Sicomac and Russell is a nitemare as well! I can barely get out of my driveway most mornings!"
  • Gerald Evan Tanis: "Coming off of 208 North onto Grandview Ave is always a thrill- you have to get your nose out into the intersection to see, and people are FLYING on Grandview. I'll go to Cedar Hill to avoid it.. it's Morely Safer...."
  • Alison Klomburg Missel: "Crescent and Godwin. Franklin and Godwin.. Whoever designed the bank and CVS turns by the light need to go back to school!"
  • Greg Andersen: "I've always loved the people who run the stop sign coming off of Grandview onto Wyckoff Ave as I'm bearing down on them. Such a thrill. Ooooh and then the ones who pull out of the same intersection to make a left and block the whole thing up. Love it!!!"

Contact us and let us know where we should be looking, what we should be talking to the experts about, and at what intersections we should be examining accident reports.

Thanks for your help!
